What Qualities Should You Possess As A Single Parent?

Are you a single parent? You sure want to give your children the best so that they don’t feel that they are short of one parent. You want to give them the love and happiness of both mother and father at all times. Although it’s tough, but it isn’t impossible. There are certain strong qualities you must possess as a single parent if you want a better future of your children. Check out the list of qualities mentioned below and see if you have what it takes to be a strong single parent.

Believe in yourself
It’s obvious that dealing with your kids alone is going to be difficult. But, you must also remember that all these hardships are temporary. What you are dealing with now, you won’t be dealing with forever. So, whenever you are dealing with a difficult phase, tell yourself that it is only ‘for now’ and will be gone soon. It is important that you believe in yourself that you will be able to overcome this phase and come out of it beautifully.

Be well-organized
If you are a single parent, you may be working as well to run your family. It becomes difficult to juggle your tasks between work and home – managing your own schedule and job with your kids’ regular routines, schedule and schooling. To keep all your tasks orderly, you need to maintain a calendar and keep adding events and schedules.

Set clear goals
You need to set some clear goals for your family. You need to have a clear picture of what you want for your kids and yourself. Until you have this clear in your mind, you won’t be having the determination, commitment and conviction that is required. Whether it is simple goals or long-term goals, you need to have them clear in your mind.

Be firm
You need to make sure that your kids understand that you mean what you say. This means they should be taught complete discipline in the sense that if you say something, your children must abide by it without taking it lightly.

Be flexible
You will need to be flexible with things that don’t turn out the way you had planned. In such situations, you will need to be creative and calm, and look for alternative solutions. Whether it is something as simple as not being able to pick up your child from school, or a clash between your important meeting and your child’s event, you need to be able to find alternatives for all of it with ease.

Single parents know that their job is not an easy one, but you need to have faith that you can do it; and you will definitely be able to go through it. For all those single parents who have their children studying at GAFL, the best CBSE school in Bangalore, you can be sure to get full support from the teachers and staff in every situation as they understand how difficult it is for you to manage between your work, home and kids.

Importance of Father's Role in Parenting

We all have heard and we know that the role of a mother in parenting is the most important. We know all about her love, sacrifice, dedication and determination in shaping her children’s future. But, how many of us know that a father also plays an equally important role in parenting? It’s true that mothers are very important for a child’s build-up, but fathers are also important for a child right from birth to adulthood. Mothers have their own way of handling children, while fathers parent differently from them. This is why a child needs both mother and father to grow up as well-adjusted adults.
Fathers are vital for the emotional well-being of a child. A supportive and affectionate father who is greatly involved in a parent-child relationship can immensely contribute to the child’s social development, inner strength, self-esteem, authenticity and well-being. Having a considerate father means the child grows better emotionally and intellectually.

How fathers can influence their children?
The relationship that a child has with his/her father affects all the relationships that they have with different people from birth to death like friends, lovers and spouses. The pattern of interaction that a child has with his/her father is what is projected forward into all relationships.
Girls who have been loved by their father will look for a man who holds the same values as her dad. If their father has always been kind, loving, gentle and generous, they will look for those characteristics in other men too. Because this is what they have received in their childhood and upbringing, they will be delivering the same values in every relationship they create in the future.
Boys tend to model themselves after their fathers. They generally copy all the behaviour that their father possesses that they recognize as successful. So, if the father is kind, loving and protective, this is what the son will want to be. Similarly, if the father is abusive and dominating, the son will be imitating the same pattern.

So what should a father do?
To have your child being a good human, you need to be one first. If you have the qualities of kindness, love, generosity and affection, you need not do anything but be yourself. But, if you are more of the aggressive, abusive and dominating sort, make sure you transform yourself as soon as you can.

Spend quality time with your children. This means getting away with all the distractions of technology like smartphones, televisions and the Internet, and focusing only on your child. Even if you spend an hour of the day with your children this way, it will cultivate positivity within their minds and hearts. You need not necessarily help them with their homework or other stuff; just spend some personal time with them. A small presence of yours can go a long way to raise happy children and boost their confidence.

The teachers at GAFL, the finest CBSE school in Bangalore, are not only great educators, but treat the students as their own children. Spending few hours every day with your children, they work no less than parents for them. A few qualities of love, affection and care are given to them at school, but as a parent, it is your duty to nourish them with the same too.
